Spear F Cattle Company — Top quality, ranch-raised beef

Thanks for stopping by

I’m Lamar, a 4th generation cattleman. My great-grandfather raised Spear F cattle during the 1890’s in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. My grandfather continued ranching in Mexico, and later moved the family operations to New Mexico. My father farmed and ranched in New Mexico where I was born and raised.

BYRON FARNSWORTH - LAMAR’S GRANDFATHER

Generationally, cattle are in my blood. The Spear F brand came from Mexico and has been used by my family for generations. My children have continued that legacy, raising their children, the next generation. My wife and I are overjoyed at seeing our children continue this western tradition. Now the next generation, my grandchildren, are learning about life and cattle are a part of that schooling. Working cattle with my grandchildren is a joy. Part of that education is learning how to properly work with cattle — to work with them and not fight against them. To learn about the traits and characteristics of our animals, and how to breed to improve and pass along those quality traits which we want to see in our herd.

I love working with cattle and raising quality animals. It is my hope that I will be able to enjoy raising good cattle with my family for the remainder of my life. Passing on my knowledge to future generations drives me to always do my job the right way, with honesty, integrity, caring about the land, my animals, my family, and my customers.

Spear F Cattle Company has been the culmination of a lifetime of hard work and effort. Some of the greatest lessons that I’ve learned in life have come from working cattle. They have taught me how to work hard, the importance of a job well done, how to plan for the future, and how to deal with life’s disappointments. In turn, my wife and I have taught these lessons to our children. With early morning feedings, building fences, irrigating pastures, branding, calving, and all of the other life lessons that come with raising children and animals on a farm. Hard work was a lesson taught through taking care of cattle and horses, a virtue that has blessed their lives. The importance of taking care of the cattle correctly in an efficient manner was stressed.

Quality comes first in all aspects of raising our beef. Our cattle are pasture raised in a low-stress environment on grass in northwestern New Mexico and southwestern Colorado. Quality animals, quality feed, clean water, and easy handling. We start with top quality Angus and Akaushi animals, feed them on good grass and hay, and finish them with grain. Providing quality care and attention to the cattle throughout their lives ensures the best steaks on your plate.
